Inverary and Lochgoilhead.

When I was young I used to love the comedy programme The Vital Spark. The boat from the programme was always moored at Inverary and we used to love to visit it. The boat disappeared when the programme finished and I haven't seen it for over 30 years. Imagine how delighted I to see that it is back at Inverary.

We have been really lucky with the weather -beautiful and sunny with no wind. Inverary was reflected in the loch and looked lovely.

We ended the day snug in the cottage at Lochgoilhead, with a log fire burning and this view from the window.

Staffa, Iona, Mull and Oban.

I've tried several times now to visist Fingal's cave on Staffa and the weather has always been too bad for the boat to go out. Well I got out at last.

Mark and I travelled out from Oban to Mull, then got the very small boat out to Staffa where we landed and walked along a rather precarious path to Fingal's cave.
There are a lot of very strange rock formations on Staffa.

After Staffa we visited Iona.
It is so beautiful and peaceful. I would love to spend a few days there.

We finished off the day back in Oban

LONDON

Just back from a lovely weekend at London - my husband has a work flat in London as he is working at Whitehall for the next 2 years so Hannah, Rob and Carter came down for the night as they were off to Lego land on the Sunday.
We went round the Westfield Shopping Centre and much to my delight there was a carousel - and Carter was the perfect companion to go on with.

It was nice to spend time together again.

I'm back in Lincolnshire now - I must admit I don't much like London - its ok for a weekend but I'd hate to live there.

Soft Feet

Every year I have had extremely cracked heels - so bad that they have been sore and bleeding and I could never wear tights more than once as the rough skin ripped them to bits. They were  particularly bad by the end of summer after a season of bare feet and sandals - but for the first time, this year, I have not once had cracked heels. After much experimenting I have resolved the problem once and for all.
I think I must have tried every cracked heel cream on the market - but they never worked.
Now I have found a routine that works well for me.
Firstly I file my feet with the scholl foot file

When I first started using this and my heels were badly cracked I had to use it daily till the cracks disappeared - now once a week is enough to keep my heels in good condition. After filing I rub
Flexitol Heel Balm into my heels.
I have tried numerous heel creams and this is one of the best.
The combination of the two together (file and cream) works wonders and I have had no problems at all this year.
If I remember I rub cream into my heels at night but as long as I do the filing and creaming once a week, that seems to be enough to keep my heels in peak condition.

Autumn Decor

I'm not one for seasonal decoration (the exception being Christmas of course) but I found these autumn ideas while wasting an hour or two on the web.

This is from here. I love this but would probably use something other than a pumpkin as the base.

Not particularly  autumnal but I love this

wall clock made out of photographs

Found here

Like this too from here , but again not using the pumpkin as a base.

An Autumn Walk

Today was a sunny, crisp autumn day - just perfect for a walk in the country . I strolled out to our local garden centre along the country road leading to it.
The hedge rows are full of berries and the leaves are just beginning to turn.

On arriving I had a lovely, warm, home baked scone and coffee, then a browse around the shop - boxes of Christmas ornaments were taking up most of the floor waiting to be put out.
A perfect morning.

What I don't wear

McQueen_FinalCollection_GL_5Oct11_gorunway_b.jpg

Your style is not only about what you wear but about what you don't wear . When I buy clothes for my mother I never buy anything with a low neck - she won't wear that - my daughter will not wear brown.
Things that I never wear are
Leather, floral prints with the exception of some larger prints, anything with feathers, glitter, ruffles, bows. I don't like paisley patterns and I don't like very bright colours except for scarves. Real fur is the biggest no no - fur belongs on the animal that wore it first. Very high heels and platforms.
